“My yoga journey began in 2012 when the company I worked for began offering yoga classes to employees through their wellness program. After my first class I was hooked, and I began attending classes multiple times a week. I learned from some phenomenal instructors, and after a few years one teacher in particular suggested I take a yoga teacher training. I signed up through Bella Vita Yoga and finished with my 200-hour certificate in 2017. I began teaching yoga at my company, and even helped manage their wellness program for several years. I also spent time teaching at local breweries and offering private yoga instruction out of my home. Since then I have gained additional certifications in Yin, Reiki, Thai Energy Work and Health Coaching. I believe in the power and healing of our mind-body-spirit connection.
Yoga has evolved in so many ways for me. I began my practice obsessed with advanced postures until an injury brought me back to the harsh reality that there is no room for ego in yoga, and that a solid practice takes time to build. I moved into slower practices, developing a new love for Yin and mindful movement. Gratitude and awareness are as much a part of my practice as Downward Dog, and I have found power in breathing through the obstacles life has thrown in my direction.
As a teacher, I encourage students to explore their practice by truly listening to their mind and body. Yoga is about honoring where we’re at both physically and mentally, and making space for growth at our own pace. I believe yoga is an individual practice, where we can heal, learn and explore without judgment. I also believe it’s a community practice, where we can connect, laugh and find common ground. I promise you all of the above in my classes, with a healthy dose of awkward charm and bad jokes.”
