“My fitness journey began as a lot of half-hearted dips into running, wandering between machines at the gym, and over-zealous Pinterest workouts that I hated. When I was given a yoga mat for Christmas, I vowed that I would do yoga every single day the following year – even though I’d never taken a single yoga class. I was too intimidated to go to real classes, so I followed YouTube videos online. I quickly realized that I needed a lot more upper body strength to be able to follow along, so I began strength training in the gym to supplement my practice. Not only did I find a deep love for weight-lifting; suddenly my practice took flight.

When I finally gathered up the nerve to attend classes, I went to the free classes offered at my office, where Michelle was teaching at the time. She suggested that I enroll in a local yoga teacher training program. It took a couple of years to hype myself up, but I finally followed her advice.

Somewhere in my training, I realized that I love this stuff. I love learning about the human body, each individual’s unique shape, what muscles are lengthened or engaged in each pose, how to use the breath to calm down, and how to safely build strong postures for any body type. I love connecting with students, and watching their enthusiasm and growth. I love realizing that my job as a teacher is to never stop learning.”
